About this role

About Medicines Australia

Medicines Australia is the peak body for Australia’s pharmaceutical industry, leading the industry’s collaboration with government, health sector organisations and the community.    As a member-based organisation, Medicines Australia represents 48 member companies engaged in the discovery, development and manufacture of prescription medicines. Their mission is centred on driving policy outcomes that ensure Australians have universal, affordable and fast access to treatments that keep pace with advancements in medicine.   It’s an exciting time to join Medicines Australia given they have recently shifted to a considerably more public-facing communications approach, engaging more frequently with mainstream media on medicine access issues.   The Opportunity

Medicines Australia is looking for a Communications Officer to join their Public Affairs team in a full-time permanent capacity.   As the organisation’s public profile grows, this newly created role will play a key part in supporting its continued success. You’ll be the fourth member of a small, hands-on team.

• Join an organisation with a long-standing reputation and culture built on engagement, trust and innovation

• Work directly with two experienced, well-regarded communications leaders, without layers of management in between

• Genuine variety day to day – digital content one day, media administration or webinar editing the next

• The chance to help build processes in a newly established team, rather than maintain existing ones

• Support the team’s shift to a more proactive approach to media and public communications

The Role

This is a genuine delivery role focused on creating digital content and managing media records.

• Create and schedule LinkedIn content (approximately five posts a week) within templates and brand guidelines

• Produce simple graphics and short-form video using Canva and Adobe Creative Suite, and brief an external graphic design agency for more complex reports and projects

• Monitor and archive media coverage, and maintain records of key messages, quotes, reach and outcomes for member reporting

• Act as a first point of contact for media enquiries and support the coordination of media releases

• Maintain and update existing key messages and talking points documents

• Support the team with briefing materials and presentations

• Assist with basic video recording and editing

The Ideal Person

You’re likely to come from an agency, media, journalism or public affairs background. You enjoy variety and are flexible to turning your hand to whatever the day requires.   You will bring the following skills and experience:

• A tertiary qualification in communications, media, journalism, public affairs, or a related discipline

• Experience creating digital content for LinkedIn or similar platforms, ideally using Canva or Adobe Creative Suite

• Basic social media video editing skills

• Strong writing skills and the adaptability to work across formats (e.g. social posts, talking points, briefing materials)

• Excellent organisation and attention to detail

Desirable:

• Experience briefing external design or creative agencies

• Familiarity with media monitoring or reporting on media coverage

Salary

• $90k – $110k + 12% Super

• Full-time permanent role

• The successful candidate can be based in Canberra (minimum 3 days a week in the office) or in Sydney or Melbourne, working remotely with approximately monthly travel to Canberra

Additional Benefits

• Christmas office shutdown between Christmas and New year

• Group Income Protection Salary Continuance provided by and paid for by Medicines Australia
