Our college values: • Respect • Personal Best • Belonging • Responsibility Context Rosebud Secondary College is located towards the southern end of Victoria¿s Mornington Peninsula. Most employment is in the fields of retail; trades, hospitality, and tourism while a growing variety of agricultural pursuits add diversity to the many natural attractions of the region. Within this setting, Rosebud Secondary College has an enrolment of approximately 1020 students across Years 7 to 12. The College has maintained a proud tradition over an extended period of time for providing outstanding educational and co-curricular opportunities for its students which has ensured strong social cohesion, high levels of academic progress and success for the broad range of students enrolled in the College. The college has high expectations for student achievement in all areas of study. Because of its size, the College has a significant physical, financial, and human resource base. These resources are used to support and promote the widest possible range of educational, sporting, creative and cultural activities that add value to learning and assist in individualizing education for each student. Approximately 30% of families qualify for CSEF. Although there is considerable economic diversity within the community, the overwhelming majority of students are of English speaking backgrounds. The College is keen to include in its staff people who will contribute to the design and implementation of innovative structures and programs that will help to build upon the College¿s strengths and to enhance its capacity to meet the learning needs of all students. Currently there is a significant focus on our teachers understanding cognitive science and their students as learners. The College works in a House structure. Students are assigned to a vertical (multi year level) House group that they stay in for their entire time at the College. The College uses the Gradual Release teaching and learning model. This model provides staff and students with the structure to ensure that we are overtly developing independent learners. Our approach to teaching and learning is grounded in cognitive science and evidence-based practice. We prioritise explicit instruction, low variance curriculum and the structured development of knowledge and skills to ensure all students build strong foundations for future learning. As a College we develop our teaching and learning based on the Science of Learning Principles. The Science of Learning summarises existing cognitive-science research on how students learn, and connects it to practical implications for teaching. Rosebud Secondary College believes building healthy and positive students is a key to their academic outcomes. Selection Criteria SC1 Demonstrated expert knowledge of the relevant curriculum. Demonstrated ability to model exemplary teaching practice, including the teaching of literacy and numeracy skills across the curriculum, and implement school priorities. SC2 Demonstrated expertise in the implementation and modelling of high impact teaching strategies that respond to student learning needs. Demonstrated ability to support teachers to evaluate the impact of learning and teaching programs on student learning growth SC3 Demonstrated exemplary ability to model the monitoring and assessment of student learning. Demonstrated ability to support others in using data to inform teaching practice and to provide feedback on student learning growth and achievement to students and parents. SC4 Demonstrated exemplary interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to engage in collaborative relationships with students, colleagues, parents and the broader school community to support student learning, agency, wellbeing and engagement. Role Learning Specialists will be highly skilled classroom practitioners who continue to spend the majority of their time in the classroom delivering high-quality teaching and learning and have a range of responsibilities related to their expertise, including teaching demonstration lessons, observing and providing feedback to other teachers and facilitating school-based professional learning. Learning Specialists are expected to have deep knowledge and expertise in high quality teaching and learning in delivering improved achievement, engagement and wellbeing for students. The role of the Learning Specialist will be to model excellence in teaching and learning through demonstration lessons and, mentoring and coaching teachers in improving the skill, knowledge and effectiveness of the teaching workforce. The Learning Specialist role is aimed at building excellence in teaching and learning within the Teaching Service. Responsibilities The Professional Practice Leader will support the implementation of the college¿s focus on the Science of Learning Principles, including: • Lead the implementation of the college¿s Instructional Model, including ensuring alignment with DET¿s VTLM2.0 • Classroom Mastery coaching • Develop the college¿s pedagogical coaching model in line with Classroom Mastery • Lead and deliver the college¿s professional development in cognitive science Who May Apply Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.
