The Opportunity This role sits at the intersection of research investment, data strategy and agricultural innovation, providing strategic leadership across GRDC’s data, analytics and AI investment portfolio. Working with universities, technology providers, researchers and industry partners, the role oversees GRDC’s flagship Analytics for the Australian Grains Industry (AAGI) initiative while helping define the future direction of data-enabled research and innovation for the Australian grains sector. • Shape GRDC’s long-term investment strategy for data, analytics and AI • Lead governance and delivery of nationally significant analytics investments and partnerships • Drive grower impact through advances in biometrics, geospatial analytics, machine learning, digital agriculture, autonomous systems and emerging AI applications The Role • Lead GRDC’s flagship Analytics for the Australian Grains Industry (AAGI) partnership, providing governance oversight, milestone approval, delivery assurance and stakeholder management across university, industry and research partners • Develop and oversee GRDC’s investment strategy for data, analytics and AI capabilities, including biometrics, machine learning, machine vision, bioinformatics, geospatial systems, digital agriculture and emerging AI applications • Drive the development and implementation of GRDC’s Data and Analytics Framework, including data governance, interoperability, standards, infrastructure investment and capability development across the grains RD&E system • Develop investment and business cases that clearly articulate grower value, adoption pathways and measurable impact for Australian grain growers The Ideal Person You are an experienced data and analytics leader with qualifications or substantial experience in a quantitative discipline such as statistics, data science, econometrics, biometrics or applied analytics. You’ve likely progressed from hands-on technical work into leading large, complex programs. You are commercially minded, technically credible, and know how to manage brilliant specialists while keeping the work anchored to real-world outcomes. You bring: • Demonstrated experience leading data or analytics programs at scale including governance, investment, delivery, and stakeholder management across complex, multi-partner environments) • The commercial acumen to translate highly technical work into business cases, influence outcomes without direct authority, and drive analytical capability uplift across an organisation Desirable: experience in agricultural research, RD&E investment, or university research partnerships. Salary / Rate This role is being offered as a fulltime labour hire contract for an initial 12 months with a potential 12 month extension.
