Legal Services operates as an independent professional legal practice within the Department and is comprised of the General Counsel, Directors, lawyers and support staff. Your responsibilities: • Provide timely, high quality and commercially pragmatic legal advice to the Minister, Director-General, Coordinator-General and other key decision makers in the Department in relation to major projects, infrastructure, development and commercial matters. • In particular, you will: lead or assist with the drafting, review, negotiation and management of commercial agreements, including funding agreements, development agreements, and other project delivery agreements; advise on property, commercial, contract and administrative law matters and legal issues relating to the delivery of major projects; advise on the exercise of statutory functions and powers under legislation administered by the Department; and advise on tendering and other competitive processes including on process risk and project documentation. • Undertake projects to amend or make legislation (including subordinate legislation), as required. • Assist in managing the provision of legal advice outsourced to external legal providers, including Crown Law, to ensure value for money, quality and timeliness of work produced. • Partner with Departmental clients to identify legal, commercial and delivery risks and develop practical, strategic and proportionate legal solutions. • Assist the General Counsel and senior lawyers to research and make recommendations to senior management on trends, risks and future opportunities in areas of contemporary and emerging legal issues affecting the Department. • Actively contribute to, support and manage change in processes, procedures and systems by demonstrating and encouraging flexibility and resilience.

The successful applicant must be admitted, or qualify for admission, as a Solicitor or Barrister of the Supreme Court of Queensland, with demonstrated relevant experience. A minimum of 6 years' post admission experience is preferred.
