Ranger (Safety)

About this role

Are you passionate about workplace health and safety and supporting teams to work safely and effectively across diverse operational environments? We are seeking a motivated Ranger (Safety) to provide specialist safety and training support across the Wildlife and Threatened Species Operations Branch and Gateway Visitor Centres in South East Queensland.

In this role , you will lead, coordinate and provide advice on a broad range of workplace health and safety (WHS) functions to ensure compliance with legislation, regulations and Codes of Practice. You will work closely with managers and staff to develop, implement and review WHS systems, policies and procedures, while supporting a culture of safety, accountability and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities include providing practical support for hazardous chemical management, risk registers, workplace assessments and safety compliance reporting. You will coordinate and monitor mandatory operational and professional training programs, ensuring qualifications such as First Aid, fire, chainsaw and compliance certifications remain current across a geographically dispersed workforce. The role also involves assisting with incident investigations, audits and corrective actions, analysing safety trends and recommending improvements to reduce risk and improve organisational capability.

To succeed , you will have demonstrated experience in WHS management systems and the ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation, policies and Codes of Practice. Strong knowledge of risk management, incident reporting, auditing, workplace assessments and hazardous chemical management systems is highly desirable. You will be an effective communicator who can build productive relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders and confidently provide advice, guidance and training support.

You will bring strong organisational, planning and problem-solving skills, with the ability to coordinate training programs and projects across multiple locations. Experience working in operational environments, particularly those involving protected area management, wildlife management, compliance activities, emergency response or visitor engagement, will be highly regarded.
