It extends from the pristine beaches of the NSW South Coast, the farmlands of the Southern Tablelands, across the picturesque Great Dividing Range and the spectacular Snowy Mountains. Southern NSW LHD comprises 2 Networks – Inland, centred around Goulburn, Monaro, Queanbeyan and Cooma, AND Coastal, centred around Bega, Batemans Bay and Moruya in the far south-east corner of NSW, and the Integrated Care Network. Goulburn Base Hospital is in Southern NSW LHD, approximately 2 hours from Sydney (195 kms) and 1 hour from Canberra (90 kms). Goulburn was established as Australia’s first inland city in 1863, is located in the Southern Tablelands and has a population of approximately 30,000. It is situated on Gundungurra and Ngunnawal lands. Today, it is a relaxed country town, home to the Big Merino (the world’s largest concrete sheep), the Lieder Theatre Company (Australia’s oldest theatre company) and the famous Trapper’s Bakery. Goulburn Base Hospital is located in a new Clinical Services Building (4 years old) and has approximately 100 beds. It is a Level 4 facility and the regional referral centre for the Level 3 and Level 2 facilities in the Inland Network of Southern NSW LHD, with The Canberra Hospital the nearest tertiary referral centre. The ED has a Level 4 role delineation and has 2 resuscitation beds, 6 acute beds (including 2 isolation rooms), and a fast-track area. The footprint includes a 4 bedded EDSSU. A typical day in the ED sees 60–70 undifferentiated patients (adult and paediatric; about 22,000 patients per year), with significant acuity and complexity across a wide range of conditions, including some trauma. The General Medicine service manages the full breadth of acute adult inpatient medicine for the catchment, supported by consultant-led ward rounds, on-site medical imaging and pathology, and outpatient clinics. The Intensive Care Unit provides Level 4 critical care, including invasive and non-invasive ventilation, haemodynamic monitoring and support, and stabilisation and retrieval of critically ill patients, together with review of deteriorating patients across the hospital. Goulburn Base Hospital is also a teaching site for the Australian National University Rural Clinical School, and medical students, junior medical officers and registrars are an established part of the clinical teams. What you’ll be doing This is an outstanding opportunity for a PGY3+ doctor to gain broad, supervised experience across three acute specialties in a single appointment. Appointees are allocated to terms in General Medicine, Emergency Medicine and Intensive Care as rostered and required, providing quality and timely care to patients in a complex clinical environment. You will work under an appropriate level of supervision according to your scope, level of experience and competence to evaluate, diagnose, treat and provide consultation to patients of all ages presenting in any condition, across inpatient, emergency, critical care and outpatient settings. Trainees undertaking the care of patients are expected to operate within their own level of expertise within a collaborative clinical care model, and to seek consultation with their colleagues when appropriate. Across the three terms you will: •      In General Medicine – provide day to day care of inpatients under the care of the General Medicine team, including comprehensive assessment, formulation and review of management plans, participation in consultant ward rounds, coordination of investigations and referrals, discharge planning and liaison with community and primary care providers. •      In Emergency Medicine – provide quality and timely care to undifferentiated patients attending the Emergency Department, including assessment, investigation, initiation of management, and coordination of admission and/or discharge as part of the ED multidisciplinary team. •      In Intensive Care – manage patients requiring intensive care, those at risk of clinical deterioration requiring intensive care, plus pre- and post-intensive care evaluation, as directed and overseen by supervising consultants. This may include management of deteriorating and seriously ill patients outside the intensive care unit as well as the intra-hospital transport of critically ill patients. •      Perform common invasive and non-invasive diagnostic techniques and treatment modalities designed to support vital organs, under supervision or as approved. •      Teach and supervise junior medical officers and medical students, and contribute to departmental education, audit, morbidity and mortality meetings and quality improvement activities. •      Participate in the weekend and after-hours roster, which is expected and is rostered as required.   You will be supported by a structured orientation, named clinical supervisors in each term, a weekly education programme and regular performance review. You will be employed by Southern NSW Local Health District. The position is primarily located at Goulburn, and you may be required to move between services and geographical locations within the District to deliver patient care.

• MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category, with qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Criteria for the role. • At least three years’ post graduate experience in public hospital service or equivalent (minimum PGY3+), with previous experience in a medical, emergency or critical care department relevant to the position. • Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgement and expertise at the required level of competency. • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams, including the sharing of appropriate information internally and externally with key persons or services. • Demonstrated excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to vary communication style in line with the understanding of the needs of diverse audiences. • Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management, and to ongoing self-education and professional development. • A professional attitude and flexibility in work role with preparedness and ability to participate in after-hours (including night shifts), weekend rostering, overtime and on-call rosters within required rotations between services.
