Employment Type: Temporary Various Remuneration: $110,986.00 - $139,187.00 Hours Per Week: 38 Requisition ID: CAM29895 - Intensive Care Medicine - Advanced Trainee Location: St George Hospital Supercharge your training at St George Hospital What you'll be doingAs an Advanced Trainee in the Intensive Care Unit at St George Hospital, you will deliver high-quality care to critically ill patients in a dynamic and complex clinical environment, while actively progressing through the College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM) training program with the aim of achieving fellowship Working under the guidance of Specialist Intensive Care Physicians, you will lead a multidisciplinary team in the management of patients requiring intensive care, as well as those at risk of clinical deterioration. The role offers a supportive, flexible structure with graded responsibility, allowing you to develop increasing clinical autonomy and expand your skills in leadership, research, education, and administration—preparing you for transition into specialist practice. The unit provides access to a comprehensive ICU-based echocardiography service, including hands-on training and supervised pathways for formal certification. Regular multidisciplinary simulation training is conducted in a state-of-the-art simulation centre located within the ICU complex. To support the breadth of CICM training requirements, Advanced Trainees may also undertake secondments in Anaesthesia or Medicine as part of their rotation. Where you will be workingThe vision for South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) is ‘exceptional care, healthier lives’. St George ICU is an award-winning state of the art Level 3 Intensive Care unit in a 600-bed tertiary referral and the major trauma centre for SESLHD. The unit treats over 3000 patients each year and has 52 physical beds of which 36 beds are currently funded. Most surgical and medical subspecialties are represented in the case-mix in keeping with the tertiary referral centre status of the hospital. In addition to the major trauma, neurosurgery, cardiothoracic surgery and complex GI cancer surgery, the ICU provides a low volume ECMO service. In addition to the accredited training program for the College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM), the unit also contributes to anaesthetics, surgery, physician and emergency medicine training. St George Hospital and Health Services is an accredited, principal teaching hospital of the University of New South Wales. It is the largest hospital within South Eastern Sydney Local Health District with 627 inpatient beds. St George Hospital is a Level 1 Trauma Centre and a leading centre for trauma and emergency management in NSW. The hospital’s proximity to Sydney airport makes it a vital service providing first response to the airport precinct. The hospital is in Kogarah, 14 kilometres south of the Sydney CBD. It is well serviced by buses, trains and major roads. The area is well known for its cosmopolitan cafes and restaurants, as well as its food and cultural markets which showcase the distinct flavours and traditions of Kogarah's multicultural community. Selection Criteria * MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category. * Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role including Completion of four years post graduate experience at commencement of position, with documented experience in ICU and anaesthetics. * Current registration (or intending to apply for registration) as a trainee with the Australian and New Zealand College of Intensive Care Medicine or equivalent level of training. * Demonstrated career goal to undertake further training in intensive care medicine and demonstrated aptitude for acute care medicine * Demonstrated time management and problem-solving skills as part of a multidisciplinary team in the clinical setting. * Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise. * Demonstrated verbal, written and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to vary communication style in line with the understanding of the needs of diverse audiences * Evidence of continued professional development and commitment to self-education, quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
