About the department The Department of the House of Representatives provides services to support the efficient conduct of the House of Representatives, its committees and certain joint committees, and provides a range of services and facilities for Members of Parliament in Parliament House. The department also promotes the work of the House in the community and supports the conduct of the Parliament’s international and regional relations. About the role The Assistant Director, Wellbeing and Work Health and Safety (WHS) is responsible for WHS policy and legislative updates and driving key initiatives aligned with wellbeing strategy, health, and injury case management. Reporting to the Director, Performance and Culture, the successful candidate will promote a safe and inclusive culture and provide specialist advice on WHS risk management, promote and enhance the department’s Employee Assistance Program, and implement innovations and processes to improve health, safety and the wellbeing of employees. Duties The Assistant Director will: • In conjunction with the Director, Performance and Culture, provide leadership and support to the Performance and Culture Team and encourage continuous improvement and development of staff. • Manage and provide complex advice on non-compensable and compensable health related claims, including conducting incident investigation and risk management activities. • Proactively contribute to the development, implementation and review of the department’s work, health and safety management to ensure legislative and regulatory compliance. • Implement WHS initiatives to enhance the effectiveness of workplace health and safety and monitor performance outcomes. This includes coordinating the department’s Work Health and Safety Committee, and providing regular reports and updates on safety initiatives and incidents. • Collaborate closely with Health and Safety Representatives to identify and address workplace hazards, ensuring compliance with safety regulations. • Oversee the successful delivery of the department’s early intervention program and wellbeing program, including streamlining processes and implementing initiatives. • Represent the Office and the department at commonwealth networks, working groups and forums.
