The East Coast Medical Network may offer 1 or 2 year contracts (as required for completion of basic training) to applicants who have completed their time in an accredited Basic Physician Trainee (BPT) role. All other applicants will be offered 3-year contracts, subject to change, with final rankings from the application process and service provision requirements determining the length of training contract that will be offered. Previous or current registration with RACP in non-BPT roles does not guarantee a 2-year contract. Please also note that once a BPT offer is accepted, any application you make for any subsequent round BPT position during the 2027 AMR campaign will not be considered whilst you are holding that offer. Where you'll be working The East Coast Medical Network is dedicated to training balanced, well-rounded and competent physicians. Vocationally based training is delivered across five locations along the spectacular East Coast of New South Wales: Prince of Wales Hospital, Sydney Hospital, The Royal Hospital for Women, Port Macquarie Base Hospital and Shellharbour Hospital. We support our trainees to reach their full potential through an interactive and individualised education program underpinned by the principles of opportunity, equity and fairness. While the success of the network is reflected in our consistently strong performance in the RACP written and clinical examinations, we measure success more broadly through the ability of our graduates to secure their preferred advanced training positions and through the strong reputation ECMN trainees for their knowledge, clinical acumen and work ethic. The ECMN offers a broad range of subspecialty medical terms across both metropolitan and regional settings. There are no standalone night terms within the network. A comprehensive preference system is used to allocate rotations and annual leave, with the aim of providing trainees with a diverse range of clinical experiences. Our written education program complements the RACP's Physician Education Program and is delivered weekly during protected teaching time. Sessions focus on direct interaction with experts in their fields and are video conferenced to all peripheral sites from the first week of training. All trainees are given the opportunity to attend a two-week revision course in the penultimate year of their ECMN training contract, regardless of the duration of prior RACP training completed. Our clinical examination preparation program is comprehensive and includes several structured activities each week, including practice short and long cases, dedicated neurology teaching and communication skills tutorials. Trainees are eligible to participate in the clinical examination preparation program during the final year of their ECMN training contract, regardless of the duration of prior training completed. Our professional development program aims to broaden trainees' skills beyond clinical medicine, with sessions covering leadership, supervision of junior medical officers, communication, curriculum vitae preparation and interview skills. There are also significant opportunities to become involved in teaching and research through the network's strong affiliation with the University of New South Wales. What you'll be doing The primary purpose of the Basic Physician Trainee (BPT) is to provide effective medical services to patients under supervision, while developing expertise in medical practice in a complex clinical environment in inpatient and outpatient areas in the public health organisations within the Network. Basic Physician Training roles consist of rotations through medical departments, working under an appropriate level of supervision by consultants. Rotations have different levels of responsibility and team structures. BPTs will gain increasing clinical autonomy and accountability as team leaders throughout the course of the training program, building on their skills and attributes with the goal of entering an Advanced Training program. BPTs undertaking the care of medical patients should ensure that they operate within their own level of expertise within a collaborative clinical care model and seek consultation with the treating physician when appropriate, in the following activities: * Clinically assess patients, incorporating consultation/history taking, examination, and formulation of a differential diagnosis and management plans * Discuss diagnoses and management plans with patients and their families or carers * Document the progress of patients in multiple settings * Prescribe medications tailored to patients’ needs and conditions * Transfer care of patients * Choose, organise and interpret investigations * Assess and manage acutely unwell patients * Plan, prepare for, perform, and provide after care for important procedures ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS: * MBBS or equivalent, current general registration with the Medical Board of Australia. * If the applicant's registration has conditions, all conditions will be assessed by the health agency to determine if the applicant can meet the essential requirements of the role. * A minimum of three (3) years post- graduate experience or two (2) full years of postgraduate experience in public hospital service by the start of the clinical year. * Eligible for or holding current registration as a Basic Physician Trainee with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and intent to obtain Fellowship of Royal Australasian College of Physicians. * ALS certification or equivalent by the start of the clinical year. * Valid Working with Children check * Cleared National Police Check * To be employed by NSW Health you are required to provide evidence of vaccination to comply with the NSW Health Occupational Assessment, Screening & Vaccination against Specified Infectious Diseases Policy, this includes any amendments made from time to time. * MBBS or equivalent and current general registration with the Medical Board of Australia. * This role requires eligibility for or current registration as a Basic Physician Trainee with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) and intent to obtain Fellowship of the RACP. What is your current RACP status? * Demonstrated recent relevant experience in clinical medicine and ability to work in a complex clinical environment with proven ability to apply clinical knowledge and concepts in practical situations.
