About this role

The Role

An opportunity has become available for a Deputy General Counsel (Commercial Law) to join Gold Coast Health (GCH) where the focus of our 14 000-strong team is on providing world-class health care to people living in the Gold Coast, and northern New South Wales region of Australia.

You will

• Lead and manage the commercial law functions of the Office of the General Counsel, providing professional support, coaching and direction

• Triage and allocate incoming requests for legal advice in conjunction with the Deputy General Counsel (Health and Administrative Law)

• Lead in the development, design and implementation of legal strategies to manage instances of long-term and organisation wide effects

• Represent the organisation in governmental proceedings, by advocating and defending its interests

About you

To be successful in this position you will require:

• Tertiary degree in Law and eligibility for admission as a solicitor or barrister in Queensland or High Court of Australia or agreed equivalent

• Declaration of serious discipline history must be disclosed

• Criminal History Screening will be required for new employees (GCH will cover cost)

Salary

• Temporary full time (three months, with the possibility of extension)

• Base salary ranging from $5,986.60 - $6,334.60 per fortnight

The Office of the General Counsel (OGC) acts on behalf of GCHHS and provides legal advice and services to management and staff across a broad range of legal issues in a coordinated and cost-effective manner. It serves as a resource for informed decision-making and creative problem-solving to facilitate the health service's pursuit in of its mission to be a leader in compassionate, sustainable, highly reliable healthcare.

The OGC is situated within the Executive Division of Corporate Affairs. However, for the purpose of providing independent legal advice to GCHHS as a statutory corporation, upon instruction from stakeholders across the health service, the OGC is a discrete and independent functional unit.
