Employment Type: Permanent Full Time Location: Site negotiable within Southern NSW Local Health District Position Classification: Health Manager Level 6 Remuneration: $197473 - $215676 per annum Hours Per Week: 38 Requisition ID: REQ681540 Applications Close: 14 August 2026 Interview Details: Scheduled within 10 days of closing What you'll be doing The District Director Aboriginal Health and Strategy provides strategic leadership, expert advice and organisational direction to support Southern NSW Local Health District (SNSWLHD) to improve health and wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal people, families and communities across the District. Working in partnership with the Chief Executive, Executive Leadership Team, managers, staff, communities and key stakeholders, the role leads the development and implementation of culturally safe, evidence informed and strategically aligned approaches to Aboriginal health, workforce and service delivery priorities across SNSWLHD. The role drives organisational strategy, system improvement and partnerships that strengthen cultural safety, influence service reform, support statewide and national priorities and enable equitable, responsive and community informed healthcare delivery. Applicants must be of Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander descent, have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander cultures and have established links with their local Aboriginal community. An applicants race is a genuine occupational qualification and exemption is claimed under Section 14d of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, NSW. * Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline and/or extensive senior leadership experience within a complex health, government or public sector environment, with demonstrated capability to influence executive decision making, organisational strategy and system wide reform outcomes. * Demonstrated experience providing strategic leadership, high level advice and governance across Aboriginal Health portfolios, including leading organisational change, culturally safe service delivery and reform initiatives within complex environments. * Advanced knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal health priorities, policies and reform agendas at National, State and Local level, including the social, cultural and systemic factors impacting Aboriginal people, families and communities. * Proven ability to build, sustain and influence effective partnerships with Aboriginal communities, Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations, government agencies, executive stakeholders and cross-sector partners to achieve shared strategic outcomes. * Demonstrated success leading the development, implementation and evaluation of strategic plans, policies, frameworks and initiatives that improve Aboriginal health outcomes, workforce capability and organisational cultural safety. * Highly developed leadership, communication, negotiation and influencing skills, including demonstrated ability to lead through complexity, foster accountability, build organisational capability and drive a high performing workplace culture. * Demonstrated experience managing financial, human and organisational resources within a large and complex environment, including governance, risk, performance and accountability responsibilities and the ability to provide sound strategic advice and evidence informed decision making in politically, culturally and operationally sensitive environments. * Evidence of a current unrestricted drivers’ licence and the ability to maintain. Ability and willingness to drive/travel as the role requires. This may involve driving long distances and overnight stays.
