About this role
Ongoing full-time vacancy. All firearms in South Australia must be registered and the persons in possession of those firearms must be licensed. To facilitate the recording, re-issue of licences, and the registration of firearms, a comprehensive licensing/registration system is maintained. This system is computerised and is maintained by the Firearms Branch. The incumbent provides a confidential secretarial, investigative, clerical support service to the Branch Managers and Firearms Operations staff. Responsibilities include accessing both internal SAPOL systems and external databases to acquire and collate information, monitor ongoing investigations through Case Management and the Firearms Control System, liaising with Firearms Branch staff, country Regions personnel and interstate Police jurisdictions as well as providing ongoing support and advice to members of the public, drafting of letters of response, telephone enquiries and maintenance of a roster for operations staff. The incumbent undertakes specific research projects at the direction of the co-ordinating Senior Sergeant, that subsequently may contribute to the formulation of a Branch Policy and to provide data and information for research by external agencies. ‘Operation Secure’ is a SAPOL corporate operation introduced to monitor security compliance for all firearms licence holders within South Australia. Both Firearms Operations Section and Districts/Regions are required to conduct compliance audits to meet key performance indicators per financial year. The incumbent is required to maintain a ‘live’ spreadsheet by recording all results and monitor and report results to Senior Management, maintain the Firearms Control System relative to Operation Secure and utilise TRIM software. Special Conditions • The incumbent must hold a current Australian work eligibility status and will be subject to a criminal history check. • The incumbent may be assigned to other duties at this remuneration level or equivalent. • Some out of hours work and intra/interstate travel may be required. • The incumbent is required to participate in SAPOL’s iEngage program.
