About this role

The occupant of this position is a member of the Operational Technology and Engineering (OTE) Section. The role of the OTE Section is to ensure the development, delivery and operation of measurement equipment and systems meet the Bureau's performance and functional requirements. This includes the following sensors/networks: • Radar and Wind Profilers • Automatic Weather Stations • Solar Radiation • Upper Air • Flood Warning • Sea Level • Aircraft Based Observations Operational Technology and Engineering is made up of a diverse team of specialists and engineers responsible for the development and design of engineering and technological solutions, incorporating level three support, on a range of technologies spanning from radars to rainfall stations, drifting buoys to dedicated observations and satellites to ships at sea in order to meet business needs. This position focuses on the activities to support the Bureau's current and future network of Automatic Weather Stations, particularly the configuration, software, testing and rollout aspects of these systems. To succeed in this role, you will have: • Proven ability to work within a team environment. • Demonstrated experience in prioritising and managing numerous concurrent tasks. • Strong communication and liaison skills. • Enthusiasm and drive. • Experience in software (including scripting) development, equipment testing, verification and operationalising and the ability to communicate these outcomes through written procedures/reports, and presentations. The successful candidate will have responsibility to ensure the AWS Network meets the Bureau's current and future needs. To deliver this, the position holder will be broadly responsible to undertake the following duties: • A demonstrated understanding of all aspects of the AWS network equipment, including operation, maintenance and interaction/communication with other Bureau systems, particularly data ingestion and external control. • Develop, review and update software and scripts (particularly Python) following defined processes. • Assist with the planning, development, execution, and reporting of equipment testing. • Assist with the development of documentation required to operationalise instrument systems. • Translate and apply high level goals and outcomes, identifying issues and uncertainties and incorporate these into advice, planning, decision making and implementation. • Work collaboratively, communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders and influence the work of teams. • Exercise Financial Delegation in accordance with Bureau Policies which includes holding a Commonwealth Government Credit Card. • Evaluate and ensure that the delivered equipment and systems meet requirements and legislative, policy and regulatory frameworks. • Evaluate activities to understand critical factors for success and engage in continuous improvement and innovation. • Encourage the incorporation of HSE considerations into the design and implementation of Bureau equipment and systems. • Comply with all Bureau Work Health and Safety Policies and procedures. Take reasonable care for your own health and safety and that of employees, contractors and visitors who may be affected by your actions and systems of work. • Participate in ensuring the quality and effectiveness of products and services and the ongoing development, implementation and continual improvement of the quality management system to achieve and maintain the ongoing certification of compliance with the ISO 9001 quality management Standard. • Occasional travel for work duties may be required.
