Litigation Specialist Summary: Receive, report on, action & effectively respond to litigation, & resolve disputes raised by customers (pre-litigation). Location: Sydney CBD, Open to other Office Locations * 12 months FTC as a Litigation Specialist with icare * Hybrid working environment, with three days in Sydney CBD Office * Offering competitive starting salary of $129,464 About the Role The purpose of this role is to receive, report on, action and effectively respond to litigation, and to receive, report on, action and effectively resolve disputes raised by customers (pre-litigation). Litigation includes all requests for work injury damages from notice of intent, section 151Z recoveries, all litigated matters before the Personal Injury Commission (PIC) and the Courts, including significant legal matters. Pre-litigation includes receiving, actioning, responding to and resolving requests for review of claims service provider (CSP) liability decisions on workers compensation claims. Benefits * A corporate wellbeing program with subsidised gym membership, free flu vaccinations and health check programs * Comprehensive learning and development support aligned to icare’s Core Capabilities. * Our People Awards - On-the-spot Recognition, Quarterly Values Awards & Our People Annual Awards * Access to our Employee Assistance Program Duties It’s an exciting time at icare where no two days are the same; as an Litigation Specialist you will: * Assist the Manager to determine strategies on all pre-litigated and litigated matters to ensure that they are managed in accordance with business objectives. * Drive and engage in opportunities to continually improve and enhance services to those we serve. * Manage and respond to requests for internal review by a CSP of liability decisions on workers compensation claims. * Manage litigation and meet legislated timeframes whilst demonstrating model litigant behaviour. * Drive successful outcomes and avoid unnecessary disputes. * Use and update the relevant claims management and customer relationship systems. * Determine when to engage, instruct, and manage legal provider services performance on pre-litigated and litigated matters. * Engage with, consult and manage communications (including settlement options/litigation strategy) with our CSPs and impacted stakeholders. * Work with the Dispute Resolution and Litigation team and other internal stakeholders to achieve positive customer outcomes. * Meet legislated timeframes and actuarial targets, achieve performance, and Quality Assurance targets set by the business. * Respond to, lead, and facilitate education on precedents and emerging trends on pre-litigated and litigated matters. * Research and prepare position papers for consideration in making scheme-wide policy decisions resulting from reviews of decisions on workers compensation claims or proposed changes to regulation and legislation. * Engage with and foster key external relationships to ensure effective engagement with the icare business model. * Keep abreast and ahead of decision-making trends to ensure that potential impacts are anticipated and managed. * Support cross team and cross organisation initiatives as appropriate Skills & Experience * Expert knowledge in personal injury law. Ideally experience in work injury damages, statutory workers compensation, and/or dust disease claims. * Extensive experience in alternate dispute resolution/litigation in insurance related matters. * Comprehensive understanding of workers insurance legislation and soundly based decisions. * Ability to adapt to change in the insurance industry and economic environment. * Ability to tailor communications and approach to the specific customer. * Passionate about providing quality service and outcomes to our customers with a focus on empathy. * Typical experience: * Extensive experience in personal injury related matters (including litigation) in private practice or government. * Extensive experience in claims management including management of litigation. * A broad range of experience in relationship management. * Ability to adapt to change in the insurance industry and economic environment. * Ability to tailor communications and approach to the specific stakeholder * Desirable not mandatory - Admission as a legal practitioner to the Supreme Court of NSW with a current practising certificate Culture We know our strength comes from the diversity of our people and would encourage people with different experiences and backgrounds to apply.
