Intensive Care Unit, Provisional Fellow Professorial Term, Nepean HospitalEmployment Type: Temporary Full Time (01-Feb-2027 to 06-Feb-2028) Remuneration: $117,745 - $147,664 Hours Per Week: 38 Requisition ID: CAM30271 Nepean Hospital is an important referral and teaching hospital of the University of Sydney. It serves the local areas of Penrith, Hawkesbury and the Blue Mountains (comprising a population of 300,000 and growing) and accepts patients from as far as Lithgow and Bathurst flown in by helicopter retrieval services. Nepean Hospital is the Regional Trauma Centre for these areas. ICU positions are accredited with the CICM (ANZ), RACP, ANZCA, and ACEM for Intensive Care Training. Fellows are encouraged to prepare for appropriate exams. The role of the Intensive Care Unit is to provide Intensive Care services to the community as well as providing emergency response to all wards within the hospital. What you'll be doing * Making a timely, structured and accurate assessment of a comprehensive range of life-threatening problems in a critically ill patient and apply life supporting therapy. * This position is for senior intensive care trainees who have a special interest in research, education, echocardiography or other significant ICU non-clinical portfolios. * Have opportunity to gain academic oriented experience and develop research skills and educational techniques. * Take a leadership role within a busy ICU, overseeing change management. * Teach other clinical staff, to ensure an optimal learning environment, promote growth and development of others, and to develop skills in teaching. * Participate in a 24/7 roster and may be rostered to day, evening or night shifts across a seven day roster. Roster will be no less than 80% clinical and 20% non-clinical. Where you'll be working * 24 bed unit (funded for 21 beds). * Workforce includes: 10 Staff Specialists, 1 Echo Fellow, 1 Professorial fellow (involved in research / education / other), 1 ARTIC fellow (manages and educates outreach / MET service), 1 Provisional Fellows (typically undertaking fellowship exams), 11 trainee registrars, 4 Senior Medical Resident Officers and 4 Residents. Essential requirements * MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category. * Completion or near completion of the CICM qualification. * Demonstrated considerable interest and experience in either research, education, simulation or echocardiography. * Clinical experience required to undertake the key accountabilities for this role including experience in critical care disciplines of anaesthesia, emergency medicine, and/or intensive care. * Independent competency in: * Intubation – Airway Management * Insertion of central lines * Insertion of PICC lines * Insertion of Vascath * Chest Drain Insertion * Tracheostomy * Arterial Line Insertion * Dialysis * Ventilator management * Balloon Pump Management * Advanced Life Support * This position is subject to an appropriate supervision level which can be supported by the health agency. If the incumbent's registration conditions include supervision requirements, the level of supervision must be able to be supported by the health agency for this role. * Valid Working with Children Check, cleared National Police Check. * Demonstrate ability to effective manage staff and resources including: communicate effectively, prioritise tasks, time management skills, delegation where appropriate, adequate medical records and professional behaviour towards patients, relatives and all staff. * To be employed by NSW Health you are required to provide evidence of vaccination to comply with the NSW Health Occupational Assessment, Screening & Vaccination against Specified Infectious Diseases Policy, this includes any amendments made from time to time. Selection criteria * Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role. * Advanced ability to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams, including the sharing of appropriate information internally and externally with key persons or services. In addition, demonstrate support for trainee welfare and monitoring. * Advanced ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise. * Advanced ability to prioritise workloads and display a flexible approach to meet changing situations in a demanding and unpredictable clinical environment. * Commitment to participating in training and development opportunities to further develop skills and knowledge in the area of intensive care medicine. * Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management. * Demonstrated considerable interest and experience in either research, education, simulation or echocardiography.
