About the Role: The Senior Policy Officer is responsible for the development of climate change policy, including strategies and action plans. The incumbent will provide expert policy, legislative and management advice relating to climate change issues and its management in South Australia. The position will work closely with state and interstate government officers, the Premier’s Climate Change Council, local government, regional leaders, and other key stakeholders in the development, delivery and management of climate change policy and projects. The position develops policies and plans that are consistent with state, national and international frameworks and agreements. In addition, the incumbent will assist with community engagement activities around climate change. Contract: Ongoing Desirable Qualifications: A degree in public policy, climate related science, law, engineering, economics or related discipline is highly desirable. Special Conditions: • May be required to participate in emergency preparedness, response and recovery activities required by government agencies. • You must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or provide evidence that you hold a valid working visa that allows you to work in Australia. • This role has been identified as a Position of Trust. You will be required to provide a valid Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check prior to being employed, which is required to be renewed every three years before DEW will cover the cost of renewal. • May be required to undertake intra or interstate travel, occasional overnight absences, and work outside of the normal hours of work. A successful applicant who is not currently employed by the Department for Environment and Water will be required to have an original photo identification document sighted and provide a valid Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC) issued within the last 12 months.
