General Surgery SRMO Employment Type: Temporary Full Time Hours Per Week: 38 Requisition ID: CAM29966 The primary purpose of the role is to provide effective clinical management of surgical patients, under appropriate supervision, whilst developing expertise in medical practice, in a complex clinical environment. The Surgical Senior Resident Medical Officer (SRMO) is the key person who works closely with all members of a multi-disciplinary team and deals with matters of an urgent or sensitive nature, whilst exercising discretion, sensitivity and maintaining confidentiality. Decision making and supervision will be at the appropriate level according to the SRMO skills, knowledge and experience. They will be expected to adopt a progressively more independent approach to patient management according to their experience, under the guidance of and at the discretion of the appropriate Attending Medical Officer (AMO). All patients managed within the hospitals of the health service are under the direct care of a specialist medical practitioner. All decisions regarding a patient’s care are to be clearly communicated with the specialist responsible for that care. Rotations include Urology / Paediatric Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Plastic Surgery and Afterhours / Relief. The position is based at the Northern Beaches Hospital Northern Beaches Hospital Northern Beaches Hospital provides world-class, Level 5 delineation services for both public and private patients. The hospital features 486 beds, 50-bed Emergency Department, 20-bed general and cardiothoracic ICU, 14 fully equipped theatres, including hybrid theatres, two cardiac catheter labs, extensive digital imaging / diagnostic facilities, medical centre collocated with ED, state of the art education and interactive SIM centre and a Helipad for Emergency Transport. The Northern Beaches Hospital provides a high standard of education and training, with dedicated supervisors, teachers and a JMO Unit that supports all activities related to rostering, training, education and welfare of junior doctors. On level 4 of the 9-storey hospital is the Education Centre where doctors can access a range of facilities. These include the latest technology for teaching, simulation and presentations, plus various meeting rooms and conference areas. There is capability to stream education sessions to/from other facilities, as well as within the hospital for the simulation rooms and theatres. * Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role * Demonstrated ability to work independently in a supervised environment. * Adept ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team with an understanding of the roles of the doctor and other members of the healthcare team. * Adept written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with patients, family members and others members of the health care team. * Adept good organisational and time management skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment. * Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management. * Evidence of continuing professional development and commitment to self-education.
