A key feature of the stream is six months of Anaesthetics training (two terms) at Wagga Wagga Base Hospital, providing extensive exposure to airway management, procedural skills and peri-operative medicine. Participants will also undertake Intensive Care Medicine at Wagga Wagga Base Hospital and a Calvary-based registrar-level rotation in either Respiratory & Intensive Care, General Medicine/Cardiology, or Cancer & Supportive Care (Palliative Care, Medical Oncology and Haematology). Rotations are allocated across the clinical year according to trainee interests and learning objectives, balanced against service requirements and term availability across both program streams. Calvary rotations are structured as unaccredited registrar-level terms, providing exposure to senior clinical responsibilities under supervision, while all positions are employed at the PGY3/SRMO level. This stream is designed for trainees pursuing or considering careers in Anaesthesia, Intensive Care, Emergency Medicine and other acute care specialties, providing enhanced exposure to procedural skills, peri-operative medicine and the management of critically unwell patients. Exposure to physician training environments through the Calvary rotations also supports trainees who are exploring critical care and acute medicine career pathways. The role is designed to develop strong clinical capability in acute and critical care medicine, support progression toward specialty training, and provide opportunities for academic and research engagement through university partnerships, including teaching, conjoint appointments and supported scholarly activity. The Wagga Wagga Health Service has undergone a $431 million redevelopment, completed in 2021, and is one of the largest regional health campuses in New South Wales. Location Wagga Wagga is the largest regional city in NSW with an urban population of over 60,000 residents, nestled on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River.
