Employment Type: Temporary Various Remuneration: As per State Award Hours Per Week: 38 Requisition ID: CAM28969 Where you'll be working Royal Prince Alfred Hospital What you'll be doing The Advanced Colorectal Surgical SRMO position is designed to benefit a junior doctor who wishes to pursue a career in general surgery. The position involves 12 months of advanced colorectal surgery, with a 6 month rotation focusing on the peritonectomy program and a 6 month rotation with a focus on pelvic exenteration surgery. There is also exposure to all other aspects of colorectal surgery during the year. The position will provide effective surgical services to patients under supervision in a complex clinical environment. Research is encouraged but not required. Informal teaching or undergraduate medical students, interns and nurses is expected. Departmental audits, case presentations and lectures may also be required. This position is based at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Colorectal Department, including management of patients admitted under the Colorectal team at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse. Staff are supported to ensure patients, their families and carers are considered as partners in care to achieve optimal patient outcomes and best possible healthcare experience. * MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia. * Minimum 3 years postgraduate medical experience at the commencement of the post with recent demonstrated surgical experience appropriate to a doctor in the early part of their surgical career. * Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication and computer skills. * Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilizing excellent clinical skills, judgement and expertise. * Demonstrated effective teamwork, time management and problem solving skills as part of a multidisciplinary clinical care team. * Demonstrated commitment to pursuing a career in surgery with a view to future training with RACS including completion of or preparation for the RACS Surgical Sciences Examination. * Evidence of continued professional development appropriate to an early surgical career, commitment to self-directed education and teaching of undergraduates and postgraduates. * Demonstrated knowledge of and application of key NSW Ministry of Health Policy Directives relevant to inpatient surgical care.
