As one of the District's major tertiary referral hospitals, St George Hospital plays a critical role in delivering safe, innovative and patient-centred services, supported by excellence in teaching, research and clinical practice. The Director Medical Services and Clinical Governance (DMS&CG) is a senior member of the St George Hospital Executive, working in partnership with the General Manager, Director of Nursing and Midwifery and Executive colleagues to provide strategic leadership, operational oversight and professional medical leadership across the Hospital. The role contributes to the overall leadership and management of the Facility, supporting organisational priorities and ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality and sustainable healthcare services. Reporting to the General Manager, the DMS&CG is responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of Medical Services, the Medical Workforce Unit and the Hospital's clinical governance portfolio. This includes oversight of medical workforce planning, recruitment, credentialing, deployment, wellbeing, performance, industrial matters and budget management, ensuring a capable, engaged and sustainable medical workforce that meets current and future service requirements. The DMS&CG provides executive leadership for clinical governance, quality and safety systems, accreditation, clinical risk management, complaints management, open disclosure, medico-legal and coronial matters, and supports the continuous improvement of patient outcomes and service quality. The role also serves as the Hospital Incident Controller, providing executive leadership for emergency management, disaster preparedness and business continuity. Working collaboratively with Clinical Directors, Divisional leaders and multidisciplinary teams, the DMS&CG strengthens clinical standards, supports effective clinical operations and promotes a culture of professionalism, accountability and continuous improvement. The position provides expert advice to the General Manager and Executive on medical, clinical governance and organisational risks, informing strategic decision-making, service planning and organisational performance. The position plays a key role in maintaining excellence in patient care, education and research while leading the medical workforce through periods of organisational change. The role requires an experienced and visible senior medical leader with the capability to build strong clinical partnerships, foster engagement and professional culture, and ensure services are delivered in accordance with NSW Health legislation, policy, governance requirements and the values of Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment. * Registration or eligible for registration with Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA). Candidate to provide AHPRA registration number on application. Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators or other specialist recognition as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award and demonstrated experience in medical administration in a secondary or tertiary facility. * Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development relevant to the speciality of Medical Administration and evidence of self-monitoring practices. * Demonstrated ability to communicate, consult and effectively negotiate with senior health professionals, executive and managers * Demonstrated experience in driving a culture of professional medical administration and governance, inclusive of issues relating to medical workforce, medical professional practice, clinical governance, clinical ethics, clinical teaching and clinical leadership. * Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary clinical governance systems and processes associated with the provision of safe and quality health care services. * Demonstrated experience in planning emergency strategies and leading emergency responses and the performance of facility disaster management functions. * Demonstrated high level of skill in analysis of complex medical policy and planning issues, formulating new approaches and developing comprehensive implementation and improvement strategies * Demonstrated capacity to operate as a member of an Executive management team of a complex and integrated health service that provides secondary or tertiary services Please complete the attached documentation pack and ensure they are uploaded to your application.
