Role Title: Trainee - Microbiology Training Program: NSW Microbiology Training Program Employment Type: Temporary Full Time Contract Dates: From 1 February 2027 up to 6 February 2028 (2027 Clinical Year) Requisition ID: CAM29856 What you'll be doing The primary purpose of the role is to develop appropriate knowledge and technical skills to fulfil the requirements of the RCPA for training in Microbiology and to become a competent Microbiologist; and to fulfil the service requirements of the department, including contributing to the provision of advice to clinicians regarding test selection, review and verification of laboratory results, notification and discussion of results with clinicians, attendance and participation in meetings and conducting research. All laboratories participating in the centralised recruitment process are accredited by the RCPA for specialist Microbiology training. All participating facilities perform a wide range of diagnostic Microbiology services. A number also perform work for smaller suburban hospitals within their network and for rural hospitals. Below is a list of all facilities participating in this NSW State-wide Microbiology Training Program: * Concord Hospital * Douglass Hanly Moir Pathology * John Hunter Hospital * Laverty Pathology * Liverpool Hospital * Nepean Hospital * Prince of Wales Hospital * Royal North Shore Hospital * Royal Prince Alfred Hospital * St George Hospital * St Vincent's Hospital * Wollongong Hospital * Westmead Hospital Selection Criteria: MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category Evidence of general registration and 24 months of clinical practice OR hold a Specialist International Medical Graduate Determination issued by the RCPA Evidence of satisfactory participation in quality improvement activities. Demonstrated commitment to ongoing education, research and teaching For applicants for whom 2027 would be your first year of laboratory training with the RCPA, evidence of vocational interest in Microbiology (e.g. employment, previous training or research in Microbiology or related field) OR For applicants who have commenced laboratory training with the RCPA, documentary evidence of satisfactory progress in Microbiology training, including supervisor’s reports, success in exams and satisfactory progress in the directly observed procedural skills portfolio All applications must be supported by full responses to the Selection Criteria.
