For more information on the Shoalhaven Region you can visit the following website: Shoalhaven Shoalhaven Hospital is a busy rural hospital which employs over 1,000 staff and is the main acute care hospital for the Shoalhaven region, providing emergency care, medical, surgical and orthopaedic services. Shoalhaven Hospital has an Intensive Care Unit focusing on high dependency and coronary patients, Children’s Ward and Maternity Unit as well as a purpose-built regional Cancer Care Centre and sub-acute Mental Health Unit. Shoalhaven Hospital is currently undergoing a $438 million redevelopment. Shellharbour Hospital is a 197 bed, acute facility providing a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient and community-based services. The inpatient services include aged care, medical, surgical, mental health and acute medical assessment inpatient beds, plus a day surgery unit. The hospital also provides emergency services, elective surgical services, general medical, antenatal and primary family health care, satellite renal dialysis, as well as adolescent and adult mental health services. Construction is underway for the development of the new Shellharbour Hospital. ISLHD is an accredited provider of the Workplace Based Assessment (WBA) Program, which provides an alternative pathway for IMGs to AMC Part 2 Clinical Exam. All candidates to the ISLHD WBA Program are current employees with a contract that incorporates the duration of the program. Selection to the WBA Program is separate to the workplace recruitment process, is highly competitive and not guaranteed. Applicants are accessed via a merit-based process. Candidates require a rotational RMO or Emergency Department position to apply. What you'll be doing To provide emergency medical care to patients while developing experience and expertise under the supervision of Emergency Specialists within ISLHD. This is a District position and may involve (with the agreement of the candidate) working at any one of the following sites - Wollongong Hospital, Shellharbour Hospital and Shoalhaven District Memorial Hospital Emergency Departments. Candidates will be asked for a working site preference at interview. The position of Trainee - Stage 1 would suit junior doctors currently registered with ACEM as Training Stage 1 Trainees, or who recently have applied / registered with Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (ACEM). The Trainee, Stage 1 will participate in a seven-day per week roster which includes evening and night shifts. Selection Criteria: * MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia * Minimum two years post graduate experience * Selected into specialist training or has applied for specialist training with the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (ACEM) NB: must provide evidence of either selection or application into Fellowship Training. * Demonstrated ability to work independently in a supervised environment, and as part of a multi-disciplinary team with an understanding of the roles of the doctor and other team members of the health care team. * Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with patients, family members and other members of the health care team. * Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management. * Evidence of continuing professional development and commitment to self-education. * Demonstrated good organisational and time management skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment.
