This six-month rotation/contract may commence from 1 February 2027 (Term 1) or 2 August 2027 (Term 3) per preference and training requirements of the successful candidate(s). About our Role The Prince of Wales Emergency Department offers an ACEM-accredited six-month Emergency Medicine Ultrasound Special Skills Placement (SSP) for Stage 2–4 trainees. The position is full-time, comprising 0.5 FTE protected ultrasound training and 0.5 FTE clinical Emergency Medicine, providing trainees with the opportunity to develop expertise in both the technical and clinical application of point-of-care ultrasound (PoCUS). The placement also offers experience in ultrasound-guided procedures while encouraging participation in education, quality improvement, and research within a supportive, multidisciplinary teaching environment. Our program includes: * Credentialing in core and extended PoCUS modules in accordance with ACEM and/or ASUM standards. Individualised supervision and mentoring by two Clinical Leads in Ultrasound (CLUS), both with extensive US experience across FELS, lung, eFAST, abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA), renal, proximal DVT, early pregnancy, hepatobiliary as well as ultrasound-guided procedures. * Support with ASUM CCPU accreditation, including mentorship from an ASUM CCPU logbook reviewer, providing guidance with image acquisition, logbook development and credentialing requirements. * Protected one-to-one scanning sessions with Sonographer Educators in the Emergency Department (SEEDs), comprising dedicated cardiac and general sonographers. * Early pregnancy ultrasound experience through exposure to the Early Pregnancy Assessment Service (EPAS) at the Royal Hospital for Women. * Development as a PoCUS Educator, with opportunities to lead JMO teaching on peripheral IVcannulation, instruct on PoCUS courses and training sessions, and present cases at the biannual Joint Hospitals Ultrasound Meetings. * Research and quality improvement opportunities, including audit, educational resource development, protocol and guideline development, and contributions to the departmental PoCUS newsletter. * Regional anaesthesia experience, including ultrasound-guided nerve blocks and multidisciplinaryteaching with the Anaesthetics and Acute Pain Service. * Multidisciplinary collaboration with Intensive Care, including attendance at dedicated echocardiography teaching sessions and shared educational activities. Membership with the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM) and qualified as an Trainee - Stage 2-4 as per the requirements by ACEM or expects to have met the criteria by commencement of employment * Demonstrated ability to work with appropriate independence, commensurate with a level of a Specialist Trainee, within a supervised complex clinical environment * Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team in the planning, delivery and coordination of patient care * Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with patients, family members and others members of the health care team * Demonstrated good organisational and time management skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment * Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management * Demonstrated evidence of continuing professional development and commitment to self-education.
