This position works at both St Vincent’s Public Hospital and St Vincent’s Private Hospital. The purpose of the Traineeship is to obtain diverse experience in matters clinical, research, educational and administrative to achieve the goals of the FRACS. The role within the clinic is to provide surgical services and to contribute to requirements for training in Neurosurgery. * Participation in Journal Clubs. * Participation in weekly Neurosurgery meetings. * Participation in departmental: * Continuing education programs * Research programs where appropriate Where you'll be working St Vincent’s Health Network Sydney (SVHN) forms part of the NSW region of St Vincent’s Health Australia which is the largest diversified health care organisation within Australia’s not for profit and Catholic health care sectors. What you'll be doing The Neurosurgery Trainee works closely with all members of staff and must: * Work as part of, and contribute to a multi-disciplinary team. * Deal with matters of an urgent or sensitive nature. * Exercise discretion and sensitivity, and maintain confidentiality. * Demonstrates leadership within a team environment and actively contribute to team activities including meetings and decision making processes. * Demonstrate an ability to initiate and undertake discussions with patients and their families regarding their hospitalisation, treatment and progress. * Communicate effectively and in a timely fashion with consultants regarding the patients under their care. * MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia * Evidence of working towards a position on the College Neurosurgery Training Program * Demonstrated clinical skills and experience that relates to neurosurgery * Demonstrated interest and involvement in research * Demonstrated ability to work in a complex clinical environment utilising excellent clincial skills, judgement and expertise * Demonstrated teamwork, time management and problem solving skills in the clinical setting * Excellent verbal and written communication skills * Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the philosophies, Mission and Values of the Mary Aikenhead Ministries.
