Positions are also offered in ICU and a variety of subspecialties (including palliative care, cardiology, geriatrics, rehabilitation, medical oncology) at Wyong, Gosford, and Woy Woy Hospitals. The General Medical teams are supported with resident medical officers and headed by either a staff specialist or VMO or combinations of these. Supervision is provided by dedicated general medicine specialists and subspecialty specialists where appropriate. CCLHD has strong links with the University of Newcastle Medical School. Third, fourth, and fifth year medical students are attached to the General Medicine and Medical Assessment Unit teams. Teaching responsibilities include the teaching of the medical students, JMOs and BPTs. BPTs are attached on rotation from the Northern Sydney Network. Gosford Hospital is the principal referral hospital and trauma centre for the Central Coast, with over 500 inpatient beds and 24/7 access to the emergency department and operating theatres. A recent $368 million dollar redevelopment delivered a new emergency department, ICU, nuclear medicine facility, special care nursery and expanded medical imaging services. Wyong Hospital is an acute major metropolitan hospital with over 300 beds providing inpatient, outpatient and emergency services to residents in the northern region of the Central Coast. A recent $200 million expansion delivered a new emergency department, ICU, paediatric unit, inpatient wards, theatres and expanded medical imaging services. Woy Woy Hospital is a 30 bed care unit which provides sub-acute and transitional health care including rehabilitation and community health services, and which works closely with the current acute inpatient facilities and outpatient support services, with shared staffing to promote a continuum of care. In conjunction with the University of Newcastle, CCLHD has recently opened the Central Coast Clinical School and Research Institute on the Gosford Hospital campus, providing additional opportunities in training and research. For questions contact our JMO Recruitment Team via CCLHD-MWEUJMORecruit@health.nsw.gov.au What you'll be doing * The primary purpose of the position is to provide quality care to patients in a complex clinical environment. * Medical Officers will work under an appropriate level of supervision according to their level of competence to evaluate, diagnose, treat and provide consultation to patients of all ages presenting in any condition and will work in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings. * You may be required to work at the different facilities and locations with the NSW public health system as part of Central Coast Local Health District which includes Gosford, Wyong and Woy Woy Hospitals. * Rotational terms for the Unaccredited Trainee General Medicine at Central Coast Local Health District may include: General Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, Rehabilitation Medicine, Cardiology, Emergency Medicine, Respiratory, Neurology, Gastroenterology, Palliative Medicine, Relief (including evening and night shifts for medical after hours cover) with relief in Respiratory, Cardiology, Neurology, Gastroenterology, Medical Oncology, Palliative Medicine, and ICU. The Unaccredited Trainee General Medicine clinical year consists of 4 terms across the CCLHD. * CCLHD has a strong commitment to vocational training and career support; term allocation is based on submitted preferences, operational requirements, training needs and future aspirations of the Unaccredited Trainees. Good general experience is provided in all CCLHD hospitals. The position is full-time, Monday to Friday with rostered ward overtime, night shifts and on-call to cover sick relief for ward overtime. All overtime shifts are evenly distributed among the Unaccredited Trainees. * The position offers mentoring, supervision, workforce support and career guidance from a supportive Medical Workforce Team, Staff Specialists and Visiting Medical Officer’s (VMOs),with exposure to medical terms that give the Medical Officer the opportunity to develop the necessary skills and competencies before entering the Basic Physician Training Program (BPT) with several terms being accredited by RACP. Central Coast Local Health District (CCLHD) is affiliated with both the Northern Network and Hunter New England Network for Basic Physician Training, offering insight into both networks prior to applying for BPT. * The Unaccredited Trainee is responsible for coordinating and documenting the admission, management and discharge planning of patients within the unit; the day-to-day assessment and management of the patients, maintaining high levels of communication with patients and family regarding the nature of their condition and its treatment; communicating and coordinating care with the team; arranging consultation with other staff when appropriate; and arranging discharge and liaising with local medical officers and othe r community based care modalities in order to ensure the provision of optimal patient care within CCLHD. The trainee may also be required to participate in General Medicine and sub-specialty medicine clinics/private practice. * MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category. * Australian and NZ Graduates/Competent Authority Pathway Candidates: Completion of 3 or more post graduate years as a medical officer in an acute hospital setting and practiced clinical medicine in an acute hospital setting for a minimum of 12 months out of the past 2 years. * Standard Pathway Candidates: Completion of a minimum of 3 postgraduate years as a medical officer in an acute hospital setting and practiced clinical medicine in an acute hospital setting for a minimum of 12 months out of the past 2 years. * Demonstrated commitment to general medicine training program and relevant experience. * Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team, including providing leadership and direction to ensure appropriate management of patients * Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise, with demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management, and ability to supervise and teach junior medical staff. * Demonstrated time management, problem solving skills and excellent communication (verbal and written) and computer skills, with minimum of 30 words per minute. Along with evidence of continuing professional development and commitment to self-education. * Demonstrated understanding of how the District is Caring for the Coast and how this role would contribute to achieving those goals.
