Employment Type: Temporary Full Time Remuneration: $117,745 - $147,664 Hours Per Week: 38 Requisition ID: CAM29224 The Junior Medical Officer (JMO) Unit at Coffs Harbour Health Campus (CHHC) is an award-winning, dynamic hub dedicated to nurturing the next generation of medical professionals. In 2023, we were presented with the prestigious Judy Muller Award. CHHC is an acute regional teaching hospital with 355 beds, located in the hub of the spectacular Mid-North Coast. Geographically located midway between Sydney and Brisbane with a population of over 73,000 and a catchment of over 100,000. To the north and south of Coffs Harbour are endless beaches and the Solitary Islands Marine Park lies adjacent to the harbour. The area is flanked to the west by World Heritage rain forests and the National Parks of the Dorrigo plateau and the Bellingen Valley. Coffs Harbour is one of two places on the east coast of Australia where the mountains meet the sea. Our town is well connected with flights to Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane and the temperate climate means Coffs is known for its relaxed lifestyle, coastal walks, surfing beaches, hiking, camping, mountain biking, whale watching, deep sea fishing, golfing, and wonderful local produce. CHHC Maternity Unit has approximately 1100 births per year, with a level 4 maternity service capability and level 3 special care nursery. We run several models of maternity care that you will support, including a low risk at entry midwifery group practice (MGP), an all risk MGP at Macksville District Hospital, and the Aboriginal Maternity Infant Health Service (AMIHS). You will have the opportunity to attend outreach antenatal clinics at Macksville District Hospital and at Galambila Aboriginal Health Service in the community setting. You will also have clinical exposure to Early Pregnancy Assessment Service, gynaecology outpatient clinics and operating lists. The O&G department has a structured teaching program, encourages registrars to participate in audits and research projects, and provides opportunity to have a formal lecturer position with the UNSW Rural Medical School. You will also have excellent exposure to a regional O&G setting, providing valuable insight into rural practice, which may enhance your candidacy when applying for a FRANZCOG trainee position. A new clinical services building was opened in 2021 consisting of state-of-the-art operating theatres, inpatient units for surgical, obstetrics and gynaecology and paediatrics and an Intensive Care Unit. What you'll be doing The primary purpose of the position is to provide quality obstetric and gynaecological care to patients in a complex clinical environment. Trainees will work under an appropriate level of supervision according to their level of competence to evaluate, diagnose, treat and provide consultation to female patients of all ages presenting in any condition or stage of pregnancy or the puerperium; and female patients presenting with illnesses, injuries and disorders of the gynaecological or genitourinary system. Trainees in Obstetrics and Gynaecology will work in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings including inpatient ward care, birthing unit, theatres and outpatients (e.g. antenatal, postnatal and gynaecology) clinics. * Qualifications commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role, and relevant experience - 2 years postgraduate experience * Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team, including providing leadership and direction to ensure appropriate management of patients * Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise * Demonstrated time management and problem solving skills * Demonstrated excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and computer skills. * Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management * Evidence of continuing professional development and commitment to self education. * Previous experience in and willingness to deliver undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and training.
