Where you'll be working Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital is a major metropolitan teaching hospital. Patients can access a range of services including coronary care, intensive care, orthopaedics, general medicine, surgical, obstetric, respiratory, rehabilitation, paediatric, maternity and emergency care. The hospital also provides a wide range of outpatient services including allied health, dental and podiatry clinics, child, adolescent and family health, drug and alcohol, health promotion and rehabilitation and aged care. An acute mental health service is co-located at Hornsby Hospital. The new $265 million Stage 2 redevelopment was officially opened in June 2022. For more information https://www.nslhd.health.nsw.gov.au/Hornsby/Pages/default.aspx What you'll be doing The primary purpose of the position is to manage patients requiring critical care in Emergency Medicine, Intensive Care or Anaesthetics, those at risk of clinical deterioration requiring care, plus pre- and post-care evaluation, as directed and overseen by supervising consultants in those departments; while developing expertise in medical practice, in a complex clinical environment. The Critical Care Unaccredited Trainee works under supervision, assisting to manage, diagnose and treat the disturbances associated with severe medical and surgical illness and the conditions that cause them. The medical officer will be expected to adopt a progressively more independent approach to patient management according to their experience, under the guidance of and at the discretion of the appropriate Attending Medical Officer (AMO). All patients managed within the hospitals of the health service are under the direct care of a specialist medical practitioner. All decisions regarding their care are to be clearly communicated with the specialist responsible for that care. * Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role * Advanced ability to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams, including the sharing of appropriate information internally and externally with key persons or services * Advanced ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise * Advanced verbal, written and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to vary communication style in line with the understanding of the needs of diverse audiences * Advanced ability to prioritise workloads and display a flexible approach to meet changing situations in a demanding and unpredictable clinical environment * Commitment to participating in training and development opportunities to further develop skills and knowledge in the area of emergency medicine * Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management. * At least three years' post graduate experience in public hospital service (or equivalent).
