About this role
The Networks Division ensures an integrated approach to the AER’s network (electricity and gas) economic regulatory role. The division has a key responsibility in delivering the AER’s objective: Deliver efficient regulation of monopoly infrastructure while incentivising networks to become platforms for energy services. Undertaking network regulation is an enormous task, with approximately 30 revenue resets undertaken in any 5-year period dealing with more than $130 billion in assets. • Contribute to a small team conducting analytical activities • Expenditure assessment—bottom-up assessment of capex business cases; analysis of proposed opex using the base-step-trend approach; calculate econometric benchmarks of network productivity; model replacement capex (repex) and augmentation capex (augex) programs • Policy development interpreting the legislative framework for energy regulation; develop guidelines on regulatory processes; draft submissions to relevant rule change processes. • Financial modelling • Data management and visualisation – improve data governance and management processes; enhance or create data visualisation tools to support analytical assessments. • Contribute to the planning and management of concurrent projects • Developing data requirements. • Engage with energy sector stakeholders (across business, consumers and government) on technical and regulatory matters, including interacting with regulated energy business through formal information gathering processes. • Contribute to the drafting of documents for a wide range of audiences including public decision documents, policy papers, correspondence, board papers, and briefings. • Work with others across offices in multiple cities. You must also have: • tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience in the following fields: economics, regulation, engineering, data analysis, energy, corporate finance, accounting, infrastructure • at least 1 year of experience working in a professional environment.
