About this role
The National Gallery Conservation Department employs conservators specialising in paper, paintings, objects, time-based media, textiles, and preventive conservation. The Conservation Loans and Exhibition Coordinator plays a key role assisting all sections to administer and project manage aspects of the care of the collection within the galleries extensive and busy exhibition and loans program. Each section contributes to all loan requests by assessing, treating and developing display and packing requirements but this role coordinates and documents these activities for all stakeholders. This position reports directly to the Head of Conservation; however they are required to liaise across all stakeholders both within the gallery but also national and international lenders/borrowers. This role requires excellent understanding of the care, transport and risk management of an art collection and an ability to administer and manage the loan documentation process. A strong knowledge of art, gallery practices and the care and management of the collection is a requirement of the position. This role is required to assist conservation staff by helping to coordinate the conservation work program for the receipt and display of inward and outward loans and exhibitions containing non-collection art including ordering images for condition reporting, preparing forms, coordinating documentation and assisting with the data, risk and venue assessments. This position manages all documentation for the department in relation to loans and borrowed works of art and plays a key role in reviewing and developing processes improve the lending process. This position of Conservation Loans and Exhibitions Coordinator is an ongoing full-time role with the Conservation team. In accordance with the APS 6 work level standards, you will: • Coordinate project managing all aspects of loan requests including imaging, scheduling, and ensuring deadlines are achieved. Facilitate the timely processing of work requests. • Manage the administration of all loan requests, condition reports, correspondence, risk assessments and care details for the department. Act as a point of liaison for conservation staff for all other NGA and external clients involved in lending and borrowing of art. Communicate to all stakeholders on issues relating to facilities reports, display standards and environmental requirements • Coordinate and archive data received and required by all sections to meet lending and borrowing, loans and exhibition requirements. • Acquire, administer, and assist in assessing venue data as part of the risk evaluation of the NGA lending program. Identify, coordinate and report risk treatments to ensure the care of the collection during the lending process. • Be responsible for developing and maintaining guidelines and reports associated with the department’s lending and borrowing document management system. • Assist other sections within the Department to meet exhibition and loan deadlines as directed by the Head of Conservation.
