About this role

The Role An APS 6 Senior Business Operations Officer will exercise a considerable degree of independence and judgement while delivering complex business operations, financial management, governance and resource management outcomes. The role has a primary focus on finance and resource stewardship while supporting broader business operations functions and organisational priorities as required. They will be responsible for: • Providing financial management, governance and business operations support that enables organisational performance, informed decision-making and the effective stewardship of public resources. • Planning, monitoring and reporting of budgets, forecasts and financial performance across a diverse portfolio of activities. • Monitoring expenditure, commitments and emerging business risks, identifying trends and implementing mitigation strategies to support organisational objectives. • Applying knowledge of Defence and Commonwealth legislation, policy and governance frameworks to ensure compliance and sound management practices. • Providing advice on financial, administrative, governance and resource management matters to managers and senior leaders. • Coordinating financial and business governance activities, including reporting and assurance requirements. • Developing and maintaining productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including Defence enabling groups, to deliver integrated business outcomes. • Supporting workforce, security, corporate and operational business activities as required, contributing to the effective delivery of Business Operations Directorate priorities. • Identifying opportunities to improve business processes, systems and governance arrangements to enhance organisational performance, accountability and efficiency. • Building organisational capability through coaching, training and the provision of practical guidance and advice. • Contributing to strategic planning, organisational design and continuous improvement initiatives that support ASCA's growth and maturity. About our Team The Business Operations Directorate supports and delivers critical internal functions to efficiently achieve organisational goals. The directorate is responsible for providing business support including complex personnel, physical and project security functions; human resource management and workforce planning; financial management support including budget preparation and financial performance monitoring and reporting, as well as infrastructure and facilities management. The directorate coordinates these functions with other areas of Defence to support the breadth of its functions. The team is agile and works in a fast-paced and ever-evolving environment. The team often faces unique problems and relies on innovative and creative problem solving to meet stakeholder requirements. Our Ideal Candidate The successful candidate will be a versatile business professional with strong financial acumen and the ability to operate across a broad range of corporate functions. While possessing demonstrated experience in budget management, forecasting and financial reporting, they will also be comfortable working across governance, corporate planning, workforce and organisational management activities as business priorities require. They will be adaptable, solutions-focused and able to rapidly understand complex business challenges, applying sound judgement to deliver outcomes in a dynamic environment. Success in this role will require the ability to balance strategic thinking with practical delivery, build strong stakeholder relationships and contribute to a high-performing team that supports ASCA's mission.
