About this role

The Role As the Assistant Base Manager you will lead a team working closely with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure essential services are delivered, and our Defence Bases and Office environments are maintained to a high standard. You will understudy and assist the Base Manager with the daily operational running of Defence Bases within the portfolio. You will design and recommend solutions and appropriate management strategies to whole of base operational and service delivery issues. You will work independently with the opportunity for reasonable autonomy and be accountable for achieving your deliverables. You will exercise both initiative and judgement in the interpretation of policy and in the application of practices and procedures. About our Team Security and Estate Group (SEG) develops and sustains the Defence Estate and is the consolidated security and service delivery organisation for Defence. Security and Estate Group, Directorate Service Delivery South East Zone is seeking to fill a position at the APS 6 level at both Simpson Barracks and Fisherman’s Bend Base Teams. The Base Team is a small dynamic group of people who use the diversity of the team to prioritise tasks and workload, whilst remaining flexible and adaptable to the changes received through the daily operation of the Base. Within the Base Support function an Assistant Base Manager is accountable under broad direction to perform and achieve complex base support, planning and coordination work within an integrated workforce. They are accountable to ensure they have knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence's mission and policy requirements. They will assist the Base Manager with the daily operation of the Base and build team capability through coaching, feedback and developing the quality of work undertaken by others within the group. This includes producing complex documentation. • Design and recommend solutions to whole of base operation issues impacting on the achievement of desired outcomes. • Assess risks and provide guidance in relation to risk management strategies. • Evaluate activities and processes for compliance with legislation, regulation or standards.
