The Role The EL 1 Management Accountant position will be a collaborative leader who exemplifies the Defence Values and Behaviours, and engenders a culture of innovation and agility. They will demonstrate the capability to provide timely and accurate advice to senior leaders and Government on complex matters. The requirements of the position includes but is not limited to leading a diverse range of work to strengthen management accounting of the Integrated Investment Program (IIP) budget by assisting in the delivery of key reporting artefacts for senior leaders. Working as part of a supportive and collaborative team, the role contributes to clear, reliable, and transparent financial management advice for the holistic IIP. Helping shape practical and well?considered financial advice on governance, financial performance, and issues that influence Program outcomes. Financial and/or accounting qualifications are strongly preferred as is extensive experience in interpreting financial data and being able to comprehensively convey key messages in writing. About our Team The Integrated Investment Program (IIP) Financial Reporting & Analysis team is part of the Financial Performance and Management Division who delivers financial advice and performance reporting to Groups and Services, Ministers and other government departments, across all Defence programs and activities including workforce, capital, sustainment and operating budgets. Our Ideal Candidate As an EL 1, you will operate with considerable independence to perform and achieve complex financial management work within an integrated workforce. You will require extensive knowledge of the financial functions and operations, ensuring compliance with legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence’s mission and policy requirements. Our ideal candidates will have the following skills and attributes: • Have experience leading teams • Extensive experience in analysing financial data for trends and insights • Demonstrated ability to translate these insights into written reports digestible for senior leadership and non-financial audiences • Ability to engage effectively with stakeholders both internal and external to Defence, and influence outcomes • Deep understanding of the Integrated Investment Program and associated policy frameworks including the Budget Process Operational Rules • Advanced analytical skills - experience with MS Excel and TM1 highly desirable • Tertiary qualifications in Finance, Commerce, Accounting or Actuarial Studies highly desirable
