About this role

Under limited direction, Assistant Directors will lead a range of activities in policy design, program management or delivering on the government's priorities to support vulnerable families and children. Successful candidates will need developed capabilities in strategic thinking, leadership, written and interpersonal communication, problem-solving, and be able to work with stakeholders at a variety of levels, including departmental executive and peak advocacy organisations. Vacant roles may include: • working to deliver on priorities, such as reducing Family, Domestic and Sexual Violence (FDSV) and Closing the Gap • working in partnership with communities to design and deliver place-based solutions and administer programs • designing and delivering social enterprise policy, programs and initiatives in partnership with stakeholders • delivering and administering outcomes-based commissioning projects including the Commonwealth Outcomes Fund with states, territories, philanthropy and service providers to deliver outcomes in community, and build outcomes-based contracting capability • leading the design, development, and coordination of national FDSV and Safe and Supported policy frameworks, including action plans, governance arrangements, and whole-of-government implementation. • provide expert advice to the Minister and departmental executive on program and policy development relating to families and communities • drive strategic policy and system reform, including stakeholder engagement, evidence-based approaches, and a strong focus on prevention, early intervention, and outcomes for children and families • identify opportunities and work to deliver policies and programs that meet government priorities, achieve outcomes and facilitate stakeholder cooperation, including financial management, performance, and continuous improvement of service delivery models and funded initiatives • anticipate and identify policy issues, undertake research and analysis, and recommend solutions to policy questions.
