About this role

The Power Platforms Developer role is responsible for the design, development, and deployment of interactive reporting solutions and custom applications that enhance operational efficiency and support data-driven decision making across the agency. The position leverages the Microsoft Power Platform (Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate) and Microsoft Azure to create scalable, secure, and user-friendly tools ranging from corporate reporting dashboards to workflow automation solutions. The successful candidate will demonstrate experience in data management, visualization, alongside proven software development capabilities and a track record of providing general IT support to assist staff with hardware and software problems. They will possess the ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences, and a commitment to delivering high-quality solutions that meet stakeholder needs while ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, ICT policies, and the APS Values and Code of Conduct. The responsibilities of this role may include, but are not limited to : · Utilise Power BI desktop and Power BI services to build interactive and informative reports and visualisations. · Manage and understand users and stakeholder requirements to build prototype and design data models and content. · Implement row-level security on data with an understanding of application security layer models in Power BI. · Plan and manage scheduled and ad-hoc reporting requests as well as project specific tasks. · Develop process documentations and drive process improvement through analysing information within various reporting platforms and identify opportunities to improve efficiency. · Perform one on one training to handover the maintenance and data refresh of the Power BI model to business areas. · Monitor the audit log to identify underutilise and slow performing reports and dashboards. · Manage Power BI Workspace, roles and licenses to ensure individual and workspace storage doesn’t exceed storage limit. · Azure development - Design and develop cloud-based solutions in Microsoft Azure to support the agency. · External Collaboration - Engage with external stakeholder to integrate services into the agency's internal solutions and data workflows. Accountabilities · Designing and developing data visualization applications, custom Power Apps solutions, and analytical tools using the Power Platform for stakeholders at all levels, including executives. · Fostering a data-informed culture across the agency by developing solutions that enable evidence-based decision making and problem solving. · Building and maintaining automated Power BI dashboards, paginated reports, Power Apps applications, and custom solutions within Power Platform Cloud and Azure environments. · Translating complex technical concepts into clear requirements and communicating effectively with non-technical stakeholders to ensure solution alignment with business needs. · Developing and maintaining complex data models, Power Apps integrations, and connection solutions that support diverse reporting and application requirements. · Leveraging Microsoft Azure and Power Platform to architect, deploy, and manage scalable application solutions including Power Apps, Power BI, and Power Automate. · Delivering comprehensive technical documentation for developed applications, automations, and solutions. · Providing tiered technical support to internal stakeholders with varying levels of technical proficiency across Power Platform applications, data systems, and general IT needs. · Enhancing security posture by developing and implementing secure solutions and improving existing system security frameworks across Power Apps and Power BI environments. · Offering technical guidance and mentorship to team members to achieve successful project delivery outcomes. · Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation including the Public Service Act, Fair Work regulations, Work Health and Safety policies, ICT policies, security policies, and agency-specific policies and delegations. · Always Upholding and adhering to the APS Values and Code of Conduct. Selection criteria The selection criteria of this role include: • Demonstrated knowledge and application of Agile methodologies and software development practices • Proven expertise in Power BI and the Microsoft Power Platform suite • Technical knowledge and experience with Microsoft Azure services • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment • Strong understanding of databases, data modelling, and data relationship design
