The Role If you enjoy complex regulatory work and want to contribute to Australia’s security, join the Defence Export Controls Branch (DEC). As an APS 6 Compliance Officer, you will support Australia’s counter-proliferation efforts through compliance, investigation, audit and assurance activities under export controls and Safeguarding Australia’s Military Secrets (SAMS) related legislation. You will apply legislation, policy and procedures to assess compliance risks, analyse evidence, and provide recommendations that support effective and proportionate regulatory outcomes. In this role you will: • Conduct complex compliance assessments, investigations and audits, preparing evidence-based reports and recommendations. • Build productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, to support compliance and effective regulatory outcomes. • Manage competing priorities and drive continuous improvement in compliance and assurance activities. • Support team development through collaboration, knowledge sharing and coaching. About our Team Defence Export Controls Branch (DEC) is the Commonwealth regulator responsible for the movement of Defence-related goods, technology and services both within and outside Australia. DEC supports stakeholders from government, industry, higher education and research sectors, and private individuals to meet their obligations under Australia’s export control laws. The compliance function within DEC supports best-practice regulation by undertaking risk-based compliance, investigation, audit and assurance activities. The team works to promote voluntary compliance, identify and respond to non-compliance, support defensible regulatory decision-making and improve the effectiveness of Australia’s export control system.
