About this role
Various sections in the Strategy and Analysis Branch are seeking data analysts to support evidence-based decision making. These sections: • develop and apply analytical and modelling approaches to support evidence-based policy advice across social security, family assistance payments • use integrated administrative, survey, and linked data assets to analyse complex social and economic issues • support the design, costing, and evaluation of policies impacting individuals, families, and vulnerable populations • build data capability across DSS by developing tools, guidance, and accessible analytical products • deliver high-quality reporting, distributional analysis, and ad-hoc insights to inform Government priorities. We are seeking motivated and curious professionals who are passionate about using data to improve social outcomes. The role involves applying analytical techniques to real-world policy challenges and contributing to high-quality advice provided to Government. • undertake complex data analysis to support policy development, program implementation, and evaluation within DSS • provide advice on the impacts of policy changes, including costings, distributional outcomes, and interactions across income support and family assistance programs • analyse individual and household-level data to understand client circumstances, outcomes, and behavioural responses to policy settings • contribute to the development, maintenance, and enhancement of analytical models and datasets used for policy costing and evaluation • develop and deliver dashboards, reports, and self-service data tools to support internal stakeholders • manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outputs within tight timeframes • collaborate with policy, program, and technical teams to translate business needs into analytical solutions • communicate complex analytical findings clearly and concisely to non-technical audiences, including senior executives.
