About this role

The Role As the EL 1 Deputy Director Project Management Office (PMO), you will play a pivotal leadership role in leading a small team to enable effective delivery of land explosive ordnance acquisition and sustainment outcomes through strong budget governance, integrated planning and coordination. You will drive budget planning and performance monitoring, acquisition and sustainment governance and reporting, and integrated planning, coordination and scheduling to support timely and informed delivery decisions. You will establish fit-for-purpose PMO governance, processes and procedures, onboard team members, and coordinate work take-on activities to support a growing delivery pipeline. Working closely with internal and external stakeholders, you will build strong relationships and actively support decision-making to resolve issues and maintain delivery momentum. This role requires a motivated, delivery-focused leader who can lead a small team, communicate complex information clearly, influence stakeholders, and drive continuous improvement in a dynamic Defence capability environment. This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement (DECA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. About our Team The Land Explosive Ordnance Systems Program Office (LEOSPO) is a key part of Land Branch within the Guided Weapons and Explosive Ordnance (GWEO) Systems Division, under the broader GWEO Group. Our multidisciplinary workforce brings together expertise across engineering, project management, commercial, logistics, and corporate enabling services to deliver capability outcomes. With teams primarily based in Penrith, Canberra and Melbourne, LEOSPO leads the acquisition and sustainment of guided weapons and munitions for the Australian Defence Force, supporting critical capability needs in a dynamic and evolving operational environment. Our Ideal Candidate Our ideal candidate will: • Be a proactive and highly organised leader with strong experience in acquisition programs, project management, or Program Management Offices (PMO), particularly supporting delivery of complex acquisition and sustainment outcomes through budget management, governance and integrated planning; • Demonstrate a proven ability to deliver high-quality outputs, including reports, briefs, and presentations that support senior leadership decision-making across budget performance, program governance, planning and delivery oversight; • Be a clear and confident communicator, able to interpret and apply budget and project management frameworks, policies, and controls, while effectively engaging and influencing stakeholders to enable coordinated, integrated delivery outcomes; • Play a central role in coordinating activities, aligning priorities, and maintaining delivery momentum across the program through structured reporting and governance processes; • Exercise sound judgement and initiative in resolving complex issues, including identifying and assessing options, and understanding implications, risks, and opportunities to support delivery and continuous improvement in a dynamic environment.
