About this role
The Department of Social Services (DSS) is seeking a skilled and motivated Public Affairs Officer/Senior Media Officer to join the Communication Branch. The role supports the delivery of high-quality communication, campaign and media services that contribute to the department’s outcomes and help communicate Australian Government policies, programs and initiatives to diverse audiences. You will work as part of a small, collaborative team to develop, implement and evaluate integrated communication plans, campaigns and media activities. You will provide practical communication advice, manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and support the delivery of accurate, timely and accessible communication products for Ministers’ Offices, senior executives, policy and program areas, media outlets and the Australian community • develop, implement, monitor and evaluate communication strategies, campaign plans and integrated strategic communication activities for a diverse range of departmental initiatives • work with PAO3 officers and senior managers to support the implementation of Australian Government campaigns, including advertising, public relations, social media, digital communication, traditional media engagement, community engagement and resource development • project-manage the work of appointed agencies, external consultancies and suppliers to ensure communication strategies, campaigns and projects are delivered to a consistently high standard, on time and within agreed parameters • research, edit and draft a wide range of communication and media materials, including media enquiries, media releases, social media content, web content, talking points, speeches, minutes, briefs, communication strategies, campaign plans and stakeholder products • coordinate procurement and contract management processes for communication services, liaising with external suppliers to support successful outcomes • anticipate emerging media and communication issues, prepare mitigations and proactively identify opportunities to promote departmental outcomes and initiatives • develop communication materials for a range of audiences, including social media and web content, stakeholder products, videos and communication materials in alternate and accessible formats • provide on-the-ground media support for events, announcements and visits as required.
