Sydney IT & Telecomms DBA / Database Developer • Sydney Olympic Park, NSW | Hybrid Opportunity • Up to $1,050/day + GST • Contract until June 2027 | Immediate Start Senior Data Engineer About the Role An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Senior Data Engineer to join a large enterprise data transformation program within a highly respected public sector organisation. As part of a growing Data Engineering team, you will play a key role in building and maintaining modern data platforms across both on-premises and cloud environments. You will help deliver enterprise data capabilities that support analytics, business intelligence, operational decision-making, and emerging AI/ML initiatives. This position offers the opportunity to work on complex, large-scale data ecosystems while contributing to a long-term strategic data roadmap. Key Responsibilities • Design, build, and support enterprise data warehouses and data lakes. • Develop and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines. • Integrate data from multiple sources including databases, APIs, and cloud platforms. • Develop SQL and Python-based workflows and automation solutions. • Implement data orchestration, scheduling, monitoring, logging, and auditing processes. • Support data governance, lineage, cataloguing, classification, and retention initiatives. • Build and maintain data models, semantic layers, and business rules. • Administer role-based access controls (RBAC) and security frameworks. • Manage deployments across development, test, and production environments. • Optimise platform performance and ensure data reliability and availability. • Collaborate closely with Data Governance, BI, Analytics, and Data Science teams. • Mentor junior engineers and promote best-practice DataOps and DevOps methodologies. Essential Skills & Experience • Proven experience working as a Senior Data Engineer . • Minimum 5 years’ experience delivering scalable ETL/ELT solutions within complex enterprise environments. • Strong expertise in: • SQL • Python • Data Warehousing • Data Lakes • Data Integration • Data Modelling • Pipeline Orchestration • Data Migration • Data Governance • Experience supporting both on-premises and cloud-based data platforms. • Strong understanding of DevOps, DataOps, CI/CD, and version control practices. • Experience with Git, GitHub, Bitbucket or similar repositories. • Experience using Jira, Confluence, or comparable collaboration tools. • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills. Ideal Candidate You will be a proactive and solutions-focused Data Engineer who thrives in complex enterprise environments. You enjoy solving challenging data problems, influencing technical outcomes, and working collaboratively with both technical and business stakeholders. Experience working within government, regulated industries, or large-scale enterprise environments will be highly regarded.
