About this role
Position Overview Reporting to the Lead Database Administrator, the Senior Database Administrator is responsible for the design, administration, optimisation, security, availability and continuous improvement of the Court's enterprise Microsoft SQL Server database environment. The role provides senior technical leadership for SQL Server platforms supporting critical Court business applications while also providing secondary support for Oracle database environments. The position works closely with application teams, infrastructure engineers, cyber security specialists, vendors and business stakeholders to ensure highly available, secure and resilient database services. The successful applicant will be a hands-on Database Administrator with primary responsibility for SQL Server and secondary responsibility for Oracle databases and will possess extensive experience supporting enterprise production environments and contribute to database architecture, automation, disaster recovery, performance tuning, and continuous service improvement initiatives. Major Responsibilities SQL Server (Primary) • Administer Microsoft SQL Server 2016/2019/2022 and later versions in production environments. • Perform database installation, configuration, upgrades and patching. • Perform database performance tuning using: Execution Plans, Extended Events. Query Store. Dynamic Management Views (DMVs) • Optimise indexes, statistics and database configuration. • Configure and monitor SQL Server Agent jobs. • Redgate SQL Monitor • Perform disaster recovery testing. • Monitor SQL Server security including - Logins, Roles, Encryption, Auditing • Support ETL and reporting platforms. • Troubleshoot blocking, deadlocks and performance bottlenecks. • Develop automation using PowerShell and T-SQL. • Manage SSRS and Power BI reports. • Backup and recovery (SQL native and Commvault) Oracle (Secondary) • Provide operational support for Oracle Database environments. • Support Oracle Data Guard environments. • Monitor, tune Oracle performance and health checks. • Support Oracle patching and upgrades. • Assist with RMAN/Commvault backup and recovery. • Assist with Oracle troubleshooting and incident resolution. • Support Oracle Application forms/report
