Application Support Engineers (x4) - DFAT Canberra, ACT | NV1 Clearance Required | 12-Month Contract + Extensions Cleared Recruitment is partnering with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) to source multiple experienced Application Support Engineers to join the Passports IT Section within the Information Management and Technology Division (IMD). This is an exciting opportunity to support mission-critical systems used by the Australian Passport Office (APO) , working within a highly secure government environment delivering essential services to Australians. The Opportunity As an Application Support Engineer, you will provide Level 2 and Level 3 support across business-critical applications, ensuring system stability, performance, and operational continuity. You'll work closely with development, infrastructure, database, and service delivery teams to troubleshoot issues, manage incidents, support releases, and drive continuous service improvements. Key Responsibilities • Provide L2 and L3 application support for enterprise applications • Investigate, diagnose, and resolve complex technical issues • Perform system administration, monitoring, and maintenance activities • Manage incidents, problems, changes, and vendor escalations • Support software deployments, updates, patches, and fixes • Contribute to testing and release activities • Develop and maintain technical documentation and knowledge articles • Monitor application performance and recommend service improvements • Ensure compliance with security, quality, and operational standards Essential Skills & Experience • Minimum 5 years' experience supporting Government ICT environments • Strong application support and troubleshooting experience • Experience supporting business-critical enterprise applications • Intermediate to advanced SQL Server / T-SQL skills • Experience developing or maintaining PowerShell scripts • Strong understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) • Practical experience with: • Incident Management • Problem Management • Change Management • Release Management • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication abilities Desirable Experience • Windows Server administration • Linux administration • Azure DevOps or similar deployment automation tools • Release and deployment management • Working across multiple concurrent priorities • Experience in highly secure government environments Suitable Backgrounds We are keen to hear from professionals with experience as: • Application Support Engineer • Production Support Engineer • Application Support Analyst • Software Support Engineer • Technical/Application Specialist • Middleware Support Engineer • SQL Application Support Engineer • L2/L3 Support Engineer Contract Details • Location: Canberra, ACT • Work Arrangement: 100% onsite • Contract Term: Initial 12 months • Extensions: 2 x 12-month extension options • Hours: Up to 40 hours per week • Security Clearance: Active NV1 minimum required • Start Date: Expected August 2026 Please note: Interstate and remote candidates will not be considered.
