About this role

Our client is a large federal government department that is well-regarded within the Commonwealth. The department has significant focus on key social policy issues and is centrally located. The Opportunity You’ll work closely with an experienced and supportive Director, providing an excellent opportunity to grow your APS career. The department offers excellent opportunities for career progression, along with flexible hybrid working arrangements. This position is available as a Section 26 transfer for permanent EL1 staff. Alternatively, a 12-month non-ongoing contract may be considered for the right candidate. The Role Your key responsibilities will include: • Developing, maintaining, and delivering timely, high-quality, and accurate end-of-month reports for consideration by the Executive Board to support decision-making • Collaborating with team members to understand internal budget allocations and existing system-generated reporting templates to produce insightful end-of-month reports • Building strong relationships with finance business partners to understand their divisions’ operations and provide meaningful analysis of end-of-month results at a whole-of-department level • Providing strategic advice to the CFO, Division, and Executive on a range of financial and business issues • Contributing to the roll-out of a new financial management information system, particularly regarding management reporting deliverables. • Providing input into mid-year and annual internal budget-setting processes. • Managing one APS6 team member within the internal budget team • Preparing a range of written materials, including reports, ministerial briefs, and departmental briefs. The Ideal Person Your skills and experience background would likely be: • An experienced EL1 Internal Budget Officer with strong management accounting skills and relevant tertiary qualifications • A consulting background, with experience at Manager level or above in a Big 4 or similar consulting firm, and exposure to internal budgeting or management accounting You will be a proactive communicator and problem solver, with the ability to influence stakeholders and achieve positive outcomes. To be eligible for this role, you must be an Australian citizen and hold a Baseline security clearance.
