Shape the Future of Road Network Technology We are seeking an experienced Principal Electrical Standards Engineer to provide technical leadership in the development, maintenance, and continual improvement of electrical and Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) standards across a major road network for our government client. This is a senior engineering role suited to a highly skilled professional with extensive experience in electrical design, ITS technologies, engineering standards, and stakeholder engagement. You will play a key role in ensuring electrical and ITS infrastructure is designed, delivered, and maintained in accordance with industry best practice, regulatory requirements, and organisational standards. About the Role: As the Principal Electrical Standards Engineer, you will lead the development and review of electrical and ITS specifications, standards, guidelines, and technical requirements. You will provide expert engineering advice to support planning, design, delivery, and operational teams while driving innovation and emerging technology initiatives. This role also offers the opportunity to influence industry outcomes through participation in state and national technical forums, while working closely with internal stakeholders, local government authorities, consultants, contractors, and other key industry partners. Key Responsibilities • Lead the development, review, and maintenance of electrical and ITS standards, specifications, and design guidelines. • Provide expert technical advice on electrical engineering and ITS solutions across infrastructure projects. • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, standards, technical requirements, and organisational policies. • Support the planning, design, delivery, and lifecycle management of electrical and ITS assets. • Drive innovation, continuous improvement, and technology advancement initiatives. • Represent the organisation in industry, state, and national technical committees and forums. • Provide specialist support and advice to internal teams, local governments, contractors, consultants, and external stakeholders. • Manage allocated financial, technological, and physical resources to achieve strategic objectives. • Lead, mentor, and develop engineering staff, fostering a high-performance culture. • Contribute to strategic planning, governance, and future-focused infrastructure outcomes. About You To be successful in this role, you will bring: Essential Requirements • Degree qualification in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or Systems Engineering. • Extensive experience in electrical engineering design, standards development, and specification preparation. • Strong knowledge and practical application of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) technologies and solutions. • Demonstrated ability to provide high-level technical leadership and engineering expertise. • Proven experience managing resources, projects, and team performance to deliver successful outcomes. • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
